WriteRight

Is a first aid kit for handwriting in the form of wooden boards with grooves which can be traced with a wooden pencil. This product range is called the WriteRight™ writing boards. These boards have helped children of all ages, cultures, languages, and abilities and even in therapeutic situations such as Occupational Therapy. WriteRight™ writing boards is an ideal pre-writing program to implement before starting to teach formal handwriting in Grade 1. Children should follow a pre-writing program to develop visual discrimination, gross and fine motor and hand-eye coordination, body image and stimulate muscle memory. They need to be taught the correct pencil grip, how to form the letters, the starting point, size, shape, and direction of movement. WriteRight™ writing boards support the pre-writing program outlined in the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS 2011). *
Benefits of the WriteRight™ writing boards:
• Familiarising learners with the visual aspect of letters, numbers, words and shapes and signs so they can start to instantly recognise and name them.
• Increased confidence when learning how to write
• Increased motivation to learn how to write
• Support: The action of ‘writing’ is well supported and learners experience satisfaction as they learn valuable skills. This is especially true of learners who struggle with spatial, directionality and fine motor control
• Scaffolding: the board provides a ‘bridge’ between non-writing and real writing
• Improved pencil grip and hand and finger strength
• Repetition: learners will use the boards again and again, thereby getting the repetition needed to learn how to form letters and numbers easily and quickly.
